About old english fonts
Old English, also called blackletter or Gothic script, is the dense, angular lettering used in medieval manuscripts and still seen on diplomas, newspaper mastheads, tattoos and beer labels. The name is misleading: it is not Old English, the language, but a style of writing that spread across Europe from the twelfth century.
The generator draws your text in a blackletter display face. Fill and outline work the same way as the bubble generator, and the PNG has a transparent background. For text you can paste into a bio or a caption, use the Old English styles in the cursive converter, which use Unicode fraktur characters.
Blackletter is hard to read in long passages and in all capitals, which is why it is usually kept for short titles and names. A mixed-case word is almost always clearer than a word in capitals.
The fonts on this page are released under the SIL Open Font License. Related tools: cursive converter, worksheet maker.

Questions
What is the Old English font called?
The style is blackletter or fraktur. This page uses UnifrakturCook, an open-licence blackletter face.
How do I copy Old English text?
Open the cursive converter and copy from the Old English or Old English bold lines. They are Unicode characters, so they paste into most apps.
Why is blackletter hard to read in capitals?
The capitals are very ornate, and several (such as I and J) look alike. Keep to mixed case for anything people must read.
Can I use the PNG on a product?
Yes. The font is released under the SIL Open Font License, which allows commercial use of images made with it.
